Guillaume Tremblay is a saxophonist, pianist, arranger and composer. He graduated from Université Laval (Md. Composition) with the help of masters Janis Steprans (sax), Rafael Zaldivar (piano), and Aaron Liu-Rosembaum (digital audio). He previously completed a bachelor degree in jazz performance at UdeM where he received a grant for the quality of his playing. He is well known in Quebec for his work in jazz and musique actuelle. He collaborated with renowned and innovative musicians such as Pierre Tanguay, Yannick Rieu, Normand Guilbeault, Tim Brady, Lori Freedman, Rafael Zaldivar, Philippe Brach, and Tokyo-based post-rock band Mouse on the. He has performed live at the side of Maria Schneider, Ingrid Jensen and Alain Caron.
Between 2019 and 2021, he received multiple grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (2x), Conseil des arts de Saguenay (3x). He his the first recipient of the ‘‘prix Hors-Piste’’ from the Thomas Léon-Tremblay foundation. This price contributes to recognizing the innovation in his experimental practices in creative music, a highlight for his work inherently guided by free play and improvisation.
