Atomic 5

Originally formed in the fall of 2008, Atomic 5 began rehearsing and quickly discovered a musical chemistry. After realizing the potential of such a natural bond, the group began to explore their collective sound through original compositions. Atomic 5 is comprised of New Yorker Steven Salcedo (tenor sax), Montréal natives Nicolas Godmaire (guitar) and Beavan Flanagan (piano) and, from Toronto, Kathryn Palumbo (bass) and Aaron Landsberg (drums). All are currently finishing their Jazz Performance degrees at McGill University in Montréal. Workshopping regularly with Montréal musicians Frank Lozano and Chet Doxas, Atomic 5 continues to focus their search for a distinctive and identifiable group sound through personal and collective growth. The group recently opened for the renowned international pianist Omar Sosa, and will be performing at the Montréal Jazz Festival this coming summer, as the final stop of an eastern tour. The group hopes to share their journey with all those interested in listening.

The Devin Roth Adventure

The Devin Roth Adventure was formed by Devin Roth as an avenue to compose and perform exciting new music for jazz sextet. Their compositions have a blend of modern jazz crossed with folk influenced melodies. The idea behind the Devin Roth Adventure is to take the audience on a journey through varied musical landscapes.
The Devin Roth Adventure was formed with jazz students from The Schulich School of Music at McGill. The group features Simon Millerd on trumpet, Mike Connon on alto saxophone, Kyla Campbell on trombone, Devin Roth on piano, Mike De Masi on bass and Andrew Dyrda on drums. Individually the members of The Devin Roth Adventure perform with various ensembles around Montreal and have received awards and scholarships for excellence.

Samuel Blais : Révélation Radio-Canada Musique 2011-2012

Saxophone prodigy  Samuel Blais has just been named “Révélation Radio-Canada Musique” in the jazz category for the 2011-2012 season.

This year’s revelations include singer-songwriter Alecka & Jimmy Hunt ; senegalese-born percussionnist Elage Diouf and cellist Stéphane Tétreault.

The jury chose Samuel Blais as jazz revelation of the year.

After winning several classical music competitions starting around age 16, Samuel Blais studied at the Montreal Conservatory of Music for 3 years.  Following his graduation, he studied at McGill University where he completed a bachelors degree in Jazz Performance which led him to continue his musical education at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York, obtaining a Masters degree in Jazz Performance.  The 3 years he spent in New York allowed him to perfect his art and to perform with worldwide renown musicians such as Greg Osby, Jim Black, Larry Grenadier, Nate Smith, Donny McCaslin, Jamie Baum, etc. Samuel Blais performed extensivly in the USA and Canada, as well as in France, Belgium, Mexico and Hong Kong.

The “Révélations Radio-Canada Musique” is an initiative designed to promote and support upcoming and promising artists. The program rewards young artists who have distinguished themselves during the past year by offering them enhanced visibility on all Radio-Canada platforms, as well as a “career development plan” adapted to each winner’s musical style and specific career path. It’s a unique chance for these young and talented artists to launch their professional careers and reach a wider audience.
